Okay, we all love Shrek, and the movie was a big hit, but the green ogre and voice of Mike Myers aren’t stopping there. Shrek is coming to the Xbox (attracted by the lurid green-ness, no doubt) in an all-new flatulent adventure of epic proportions. Shrek is the new-found hero of all fairy tale characters, but his popularity is making him the most demanded ogre in the country. His swamp is flooded with requests for ‘save-the-princess’ missions or ‘defeat-the-bad-guy’ quests, and it’s your task to see that his job is done so he can rest in solitude once more. It seems there are 36 calls for help in this game. Each of the tasks or missions takes place in one of four strangely familiar but never-previously-seen environments. We have to say that the game has been rendered beautifully, and puts the Xbox hardware to good use. In some instances, you’ll have a hard time telling the difference between the film and the game. Boasting a possible 80 hours of gameplay, Shrek is said to be the biggest game available for the Xbox’s eight-week launch period. But to Shrek aficionados, the most welcome aspect is the fact that the personality that accompanied the film has been carried over to the game. The game features plenty of hip, sarcastic humour from the film that’ll keep the players interested not only in the game, but in its story too. To summarise, then: Shrek is, quite simply, great fun to play, and a handsome looker too. Now, who’d have thought that of a game with an ogre as its central character?
